About the project

Terraces and flat roofs take the full load of rain, sun and temperature changes, and any leak shows up in the rooms below. At Ames Residence, a synthetic PVC membrane was laid over the whole surface, its overlaps hot-air welded into one continuous, watertight layer that stays flexible under UV and temperature changes. SARP supplied the system and supervised the installation with Ames Construction.

On a roof the details make the difference: upstands, drains, corners and penetrations are formed with prefabricated pieces or membrane-laminated metal sheet, so the waterproofing stays continuous at every edge.

System applied

The terrace was waterproofed with Mapeplan M 15, a 1.5 mm PVC-P membrane reinforced with polyester mesh, made for exposed roofs and resistant to UV and weather. It was laid over a Polydren PL polyester geotextile, which separates the membrane from the substrate and protects it, and all overlaps were hot-air welded.

Upstands and edges were formed with Mapeplan Lamiera, metal sheet laminated with PVC so the membrane welds straight onto it, and the joints between the profiles and the walls were sealed with Mapeflex PU 45 FT polyurethane sealant. Rainwater is taken off through prefabricated Mapeplan Bocchetta outlets, and Mapeplan Aeratore vents let any vapour trapped under the membrane escape.
