Reinforcing bars, mesh and strand carry the tensile forces in reinforced concrete. If the steel fails to reach the strength or elongation of its declared class, the element loses ductility — its ability to give warning before failure.
Testing determines nominal mass and diameter, which verify that the delivered material matches what was ordered, together with tensile strength and total elongation, the mechanical parameters required by the design.
Specimens are taken from every consignment and from every bar diameter used in the works.
The steel reinforcement tests below are those our laboratory is accredited for under ISO/IEC 17025, certificate LT 069:
- Nominal mass — 0.4÷6.3 kg/m — BS EN ISO 15630-1:2019
- Nominal diameter — 4÷30 mm — BS EN ISO 15630-1:2019
- Tensile strength — 5÷1000 kN — BS EN ISO 15630-1:2019; BS EN ISO 6892-1:2019
- Total elongation — 1÷25 % — BS EN ISO 15630-1:2019; BS EN ISO 6892-1:2019
