Concrete is the most widely used structural material in construction, and its quality determines both the safety and the service life of the works. Concrete testing falls into two groups: tests on fresh concrete, which check the mix before it is placed, and tests on hardened concrete, which prove the class actually achieved.

On fresh concrete we measure consistence, density and air content — the parameters that show whether the mix is workable and properly compacted. On hardened concrete we measure compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strength, density, cement content and depth of water penetration, which relates directly to durability and to the risk of reinforcement corrosion.

Our laboratory also designs production mixes for normal, self-compacting, sprayed and aerated concrete, and takes and tests cores from existing structures when a completed element has to be assessed.

The tests below — the first four on fresh concrete, the rest on hardened concrete — are those our laboratory is accredited for under ISO/IEC 17025, certificate LT 069:
