Mapecem
Special fast setting and drying (24 hours) hydraulic binder for shrinkage-compensated screeds, floating or bonded.
Supplied by SARP & LAB, the only authorised MAPEI distributor in Albania.
Where it is used
- Floating and bonded screeds on existing and new slabs, where fast drying is required for minimum downtime
- Screeds for wood, PVC, linoleum, ceramic tiles, carpeting and other flooring
- Screeds set to light foot traffic after 2-3 hours, for parquet and resilient flooring after 24 hours
- Patching and repairing screeds in areas subject to continuous traffic, such as supermarkets, hospitals and airports
- Screeds incorporating underfloor heating systems
Why Mapecem
- Hardens in just a few hours and dries at any thickness within 24 hours, with residual moisture below 2% by weight
- Very high mechanical strength
- Mixed with clean graded aggregates and water, in a mixer, drum, screw mixer or by shovel
- Can be placed with an automatic pressure pump
How it is applied
-
Prepare the substrate
All substrates are suitable if not subject to rising damp; otherwise install a vapour barrier. For bonded screeds, the substrate must be dry, free from cracks, dust, loose materials, paints, wax, oil and traces of gypsum.
-
Mix
Mix quickly with water and 0-8 mm graded aggregates or Gravel 0-8, for a maximum of 3-4 minutes. One 20 kg bag goes with 80-100 kg of aggregates (13-15 shovelfuls) and 4 to 8 kg of water, depending on the moisture in the aggregates. Spread and level within 30 minutes.
-
Floating screeds (35 to 60 mm)
Lay a polyethylene sheet first. If pipes cross the screed, lay a light metal mesh and keep a minimum thickness of 2.5 cm over them. Prepare levelling strips, spread, compact and tamp. Insert 1 cm anti-fracture material around the perimeter and columns.
-
Bonded screeds (10 to 35 mm)
Mix as for floating screeds, but first apply an anchoring slurry of Planicrete, water and Mapecem (1 : 1 : 2 by weight) to the clean substrate, just before installing the screed (fresh on fresh).
-
Check moisture
Measure residual moisture with a carbide hygrometer: electronic hygrometers give only indicative values.

Application precautions
- Do not use on substrates subject to rising damp: lay a waterproofing membrane first
- Do not mix with other cements, lime or gypsum, and not with fine sand only
- Do not leave dry-mixed with aggregates, or in the mixer for more than 3-4 minutes
- Do not add water or remix after it has started to set, and do not wet the surface of the screed
- Do not mix in batching plants or transport by cement mixer lorry: the setting time is too short
- Contains cement: use protective gloves and goggles

Frequently asked questions
How much do I need per m²?
For 350-450 kg of Mapecem per m³ of aggregates, consumption is 3.5-4.5 kg/m² per cm of thickness.
How long before it is dry?
It dries at any thickness within 24 hours, with residual moisture below 2% by weight. Resilient coverings and wood can be installed after 24 hours.
What thickness can it be laid at?
Floating screeds from 35 to 60 mm and bonded screeds from 10 to 35 mm.
Which aggregates should be used?
Graded aggregates from 0 to 8 mm or Gravel 0-8. Do not mix it only with fine sand.
Which adhesive for wood floors?
Mapecem screeds are very compact and absorb water from dispersion adhesives slowly, so one- and two-component reactive MAPEI adhesives are recommended.
Is there a warranty?
If required, MAPEI can provide a warranty for each product it sells. Contact us about your case.
