Mapelastic

Two-component cementitious mortar, flexible down to −20°C, for waterproofing balconies, terraces, bathrooms and swimming pools.

Supplied by SARP & LAB, the only authorised MAPEI distributor in Albania.

−20°Cremains flexible down to this temperature
2 mmminimum final thickness
≈ 1.7 kg/m²per mm of thickness, manual application
32 kgunit: A 24 kg + B 8 kg
If required, MAPEI can provide a warranty for each product it sells.

Where it is used

  • Bathrooms, showers, balconies, terraces and swimming pools, before laying ceramic tile finishes
  • Concrete basins used for containing water
  • Plasterboard, render or cementitious surfaces, lightweight cement blocks and marine-grade plywood
  • Flexible skimming layers on thin-section concrete structures, including prefabricated elements subject to small deformations under load
  • Render or concrete with shrinkage cracks, to block water and aggressive agents in the atmosphere
  • Concrete in contact with seawater, de-icing salts and sulfate salts

Why Mapelastic

  • Remains flexible down to −20°C, with static crack-bridging Class A3 at that temperature
  • Waterproofing with just 2 mm thickness, on new or existing substrates
  • Adheres to concrete, brickwork, ceramic and marble surfaces that are sound and sufficiently clean
  • Resistant to UV rays, de-icing salts, sulphates, chlorides and carbon dioxide
  • CE marked to EN 1504-2 (principles PI, MC, IR) and EN 14891 (CM O2 P)
  • EC1 Plus certified for very low VOC emissions, with residual greenhouse gas emissions offset for 2026

How it is applied

  1. Prepare the surface

The surface must be sound and perfectly clean; slightly dampen absorbent surfaces. Fill screed cracks with Eporip and level up to 30 mm with Planitop Fast 330. Renders need 7 days of curing per cm of thickness in good weather.

  2. Treat the details

Use Mapeband, Mapeband Easy or Mapeband SA at joints between horizontal and vertical elements and at control joints, Mapeband TPE at structural joints, and kits from the Drain range at drain holes.

  3. Mix

Pour component B (liquid) into a clean container and slowly add component A (powder), using a low-speed mechanical mixer. Do not mix by hand. Use the mix within 60 minutes.

  4. First layer and reinforcement

Skim the surface with a straight trowel. On terraces, balconies, basins and swimming pools, embed Mapenet 150 mesh in the first fresh layer, and also in micro-cracked or highly stressed areas. Finish with a flat trowel.

  5. Second layer

Apply when the first layer has hardened, after 4–5 hours, for a total thickness of at least 2 mm. By spray, use a rendering machine with a skimming lance, with further layers after 4–5 hours if more thickness is needed.

  6. Laying tiles

Wait at least 5 days; in good weather and temperature on a dry substrate, this may be reduced to 24 hours. Use a C2 adhesive, a CG2 grout and a MAPEI elastic sealant; in swimming pools, seal joints with Mapesil AC.

Application precautions

  • Do not apply below +8°C or more than 2 mm per coat
  • Do not add cement, aggregates or water
  • Do not apply on lightweight substrates or on cementitious substrates that are not properly cured
  • Protect from rain and accidental water spills for the first 24 hours
  • Do not use exposed in a swimming pool
  • In hot weather, keep powder and liquid out of the sun; in dry, warm or windy weather, cover the surface with sheets after application

Frequently asked questions

How much do I need per m²?

By hand, about 1.7 kg/m² per mm of thickness, so about 3.4 kg/m² at the 2 mm minimum. On that basis a 32 kg unit covers approximately 9.4 m² and a 16 kg unit approximately 4.7 m². By spray, consumption is 1.85 to 2.2 kg/m² per mm, depending on the surface.

Can it go over existing tiles?

Yes, if existing ceramic, porcelain, clinker or terracotta coverings are well bonded and free of grease, oil, wax or paint. Clean with UltraCare HD Cleaner, then rinse thoroughly with water.

How soon can tiles be laid?

After at least 5 days of curing. In good weather and temperature, and on a dry substrate, this may be reduced to 24 hours.

Can it be left uncovered?

Not in a swimming pool. On horizontal surfaces without foot traffic, such as flat roofs, it can be painted with Elastocolor Waterproof at least 20 days after application.

What is the minimum application temperature?

Do not apply below +8°C. The recommended range is +8°C to +35°C for both the air and the substrate. The hardened layer remains flexible down to −20°C.

Is there a warranty?
