Where it is used

  • High strength cement screeds for interior and exterior use
  • High strength cement renders, and adhesive shotcretes for bonding renders
  • Thin smoothing layers based on cement
  • Cement bonding slurries, including for Mapecem Pronto or Topcem Pronto bonded screeds
  • Cement mortars for filling holes, reconstructing damaged areas and finishing surfaces
  • Mortar for surfaces with high abrasion, such as industrial floors, ramps and channels

Why Planicrete

  • Improves the adhesion, plasticity, thixotropy, water retention and overall workability of the mix
  • After hardening: better adhesion to substrates and higher compressive and flexural strengths
  • Higher resistance to abrasion and higher impermeability
  • Better resistance to freeze-thaw cycles, diluted acids, saline solutions and oils
  • Special SBR elastomer resistant to alkaline saponification and stable after ageing

How it is applied

  1. Prepare the substrate

It must be solid, compact and clean. Remove crumbling parts, dust, concrete crusts, oil, form-release agents and paint by sandblasting, brushing or pressure washing. Wet thoroughly, leaving no excess water on the surface.

  2. Choose the mix

Bonding screeds of 10 to 35 mm: dilute 1:3 with water, on a slurry of Planicrete and cement. Floating screeds of at least 35 mm: dilute 1:4. Renders: 1 kg Planicrete, 4 kg water, 5.5 kg cement, 20 kg aggregates (0-3 mm).

  3. Bonding slurry

Mix 1 kg Planicrete, 1 kg water and 4 kg cement. Apply it before screeds and plasters on existing cement surfaces, and cast fresh screed on to fresh slurry, without waiting for it to dry.

  4. Mix

Dilute Planicrete with water, pour into the concrete mixer and add the cement and aggregates. Mix for 2-3 minutes until smooth and even. Do not over-mix.

  5. Cure

Especially in very warm or windy weather, spray water on to the surface during the first hours of curing, or protect it with suitable sheeting.

Application precautions

  • Do not use pure as a primer or slurry: always mix with Portland cement or, if necessary, with Mapecem or Topcem
  • Do not use mixes containing Planicrete below +5°C or above +40°C
  • In a concrete mixer, never mix for more than 3 minutes, to avoid excessive air entrainment
  • The water ratios are for dry aggregates: with damp or wet aggregates, the dilution should be decreased
  • Wear protective gloves and goggles and take the usual precautions for handling chemicals

Frequently asked questions

How much is needed?

It depends on the use: for example 40-50 g/m² per mm for bonding screeds, 60-70 g/m² per mm for renders and 300-310 g/m² per mm for bonding slurry.

Can it be used as a primer on its own?

No. Do not use it pure as a primer or slurry: always mix it with Portland cement or, if necessary, with Mapecem or Topcem.

Does it change the setting time?

The setting time of mixes with Planicrete does not differ significantly from normal mixes. Workability is usually slightly longer.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes. The datasheet lists screeds and renders for interior and exterior use, within +5°C to +40°C.

Is there a warranty?

If required, MAPEI can provide a warranty for each product it sells. Contact us about your case.
