Mapegum WPS
Quick-drying flexible liquid membrane for waterproofing internal surfaces, applied before installing ceramic tiles or stone material.
Supplied by SARP & LAB, the only authorised MAPEI distributor in Albania.
Where it is used
- Bathroom and shower cubicle walls and floors, before laying ceramic tiles, natural stone and mosaic
- Kitchen walls, floors and work tops, before laying ceramic tiles and natural stone
- Indoor surfaces not subject to rising damp or permanent water immersion
- Plasterboard, gypsum or cementitious render, lightweight cement block and marine plywood
- Cementitious, anhydrite, wooden and magnesite substrates, after priming
- Existing ceramic and natural stone, after Eco Prim T Plus primer
Why Mapegum WPS
- Ready to use, one-component and solvent-free
- No reinforcement required
- Thixotropic consistency, for easy application on horizontal, sloping and vertical surfaces
- Withstands normal substrate movements from temperature variations and vibrations
- Resistant to water, limewater, water containing chlorides and normal household detergents
- EC1 Plus certified for very low VOC emissions; systems with MAPEI adhesives certified for damp environments by Saurefliesner, SP (Sweden) and the Norwegian Research and Building Institute
How it is applied
-
Prepare the surface
Substrates must be solid, clean, dry and free of oil, grease or old paint. Treat highly absorbent or gypsum-based substrates with Primer G, and existing tiles or natural stone with Eco Prim T Plus. Anhydrite or gypsum must be perfectly dry (maximum 0.5% residual humidity), sanded and treated with Primer G or Primer S.
-
Treat the details
Place Mapeband, Mapeband PE 120 or Mapeband Easy between wall and floor and between adjoining walls, bonded with Mapegum WPS. Use the special pieces from the Drain range at drains. Use Planitop Fast 330 to create slopes or smooth the base.
-
Apply the coats
Apply evenly in thin coats by trowel, roller, brush or spray, diluting with up to 5% of water if required. Wait until the first coat is dry, 1–2 hours according to temperature, then apply further coats crossways.
-
Check the thickness
The final thickness must never be less than 0.8 mm, equivalent to a dry thickness of 0.5 mm. Make sure there are no gaps caused by imperfections in the substrate.
-
Laying tiles
Wait 12–24 hours on absorbent substrates and 4–5 days on non-absorbent ones. Use a MAPEI adhesive, class C2 if cementitious or D2TE if a water dispersion type, then grout with Ultracolor Plus, Keracolor FF or GG with Fugolastic, or Kerapoxy.

Application precautions
- Do not apply below +5°C
- Do not apply on damp cementitious substrates or on substrates subject to rising damp
- Do not use on surfaces continuously immersed in liquid, such as swimming pools, fountains or storage tanks: use Mapelastic or Mapelastic Smart
- Do not use to cover cracks
- Protect from pedestrian abrasion by installing ceramic tiles or stone material
- Create slopes where necessary to avoid puddles of water

Frequently asked questions
How much do I need per m²?
Approximately 1.2 kg/m² in two coats, equal to 0.8 mm wet thickness, and more on uneven surfaces. On that basis a 20 kg drum covers approximately 16.7 m², a 10 kg drum 8.3 m² and a 5 kg drum 4.2 m².
How soon can tiles be laid?
After 12–24 hours on absorbent substrates and after 4–5 days on substrates which are not absorbent.
Can it be used in a swimming pool?
No. It is not for surfaces continuously immersed in liquid, such as swimming pools, fountains or storage tanks. The datasheet directs these applications to Mapelastic or Mapelastic Smart.
Can it go over existing tiles?
Yes. Check that the substrate is sound, clean it by washing and brushing or with water and steam, and treat it with Eco Prim T Plus primer before applying Mapegum WPS.
Is it for indoor or outdoor use?
The datasheet covers indoor floor and wall surfaces that are not subject to rising damp or permanent immersion, such as bathrooms, showers and kitchens.
Is there a warranty?
If required, MAPEI can provide a warranty for each product it sells. Contact us about your case.
