Mapelastic Smart
Two-component, high-flexibility cementitious mortar, applied by trowel or roller, for waterproofing balconies, terraces, bathrooms and swimming pools.

Where it is used
- Bathrooms, showers, balconies, terraces and swimming pools, before laying ceramic tiles
- Hydraulic channels, dam faces and basins
- Plasterboard, render or cementitious surfaces and marine plywood
- Flexible protection of new or repaired concrete structures subject to minor deformation under load
- Render and concrete with cracks from shrinkage, temperature changes or passing vehicles
- Concrete in contact with seawater, de-icing salts and sulphates

How it is applied

Prepare the surface
The surface must be sound and perfectly clean. Slightly dampen absorbent surfaces. Seal screed cracks with Eporip; level up to 3 cm with Planitop Fast 330 or Adesilex P4.

Treat the details
Use Mapeband, Mapeband Easy or Mapeband SA at floor-wall joints and contraction joints, and Mapeband TPE at structural joints.

Mix
Pour component B (liquid) into a clean container and slowly add component A (powder), using a low-speed mechanical mixer. Use the mix within 60 minutes (at +20°C).

First coat and reinforcement
Apply by roller, trowel or spray machine. On balconies, terraces, basins and pools, embed Mapenet 150 mesh in the still-wet first coat. On horizontal surfaces, Mapetex Sel N fabric can be used for higher elasticity.

Second coat
Apply after 4–5 hours, once the first coat has hardened. The final thickness must be at least 2 mm.

Laying tiles
Wait at least 5 days; longer in cold weather, while in good weather on a dry substrate this may be reduced to 24 hours. Use at least a C2 class adhesive, a CG2 grout and a flexible MAPEI sealant.

Application precautions
- Do not apply below +8°C
- Do not add cement, aggregates or water
- Protect from rain and water for the first 24 hours
- Do not leave exposed in swimming pools
- Do not apply on insufficiently cured cementitious substrates
- In hot, dry or windy weather, keep material out of the sun and cover the surface with sheets

Frequently asked questions
How much do I need per m²?
By trowel or roller, consumption is approx. 1.6 kg/m² per mm of thickness, so about 3.2 kg/m² at the 2 mm minimum. A 30 kg unit covers roughly 9 m² on a flat surface; uneven surfaces use more.
Can it go over existing tiles?
Yes, if the existing covering is well bonded and free of grease, oil, wax or varnish. MAPEI recommends washing first with UltraCare HD Cleaner and rinsing thoroughly with water.
How soon can tiles be laid?
After at least 5 days. This can take longer in cold weather; in good weather, at the right temperature and on a dry substrate, it may be reduced to 24 hours.
Can it be left uncovered?
Not in swimming pools, where it must be covered. On horizontal surfaces without foot traffic, such as flat roofs, it can be painted with Elastocolor Waterproof at least 20 days after application.
